If you do gymnastics (breathing practices included), eat sensibly and sleep well, your Qi — your life energy — is most likely in good order. At the same time, if you ignore this triad of Movement — Psychology — Nutrition, your qi will not be able to flow freely, and you will go on fighting and fighting whatever medical and psychological problems you have.
Another important factor in regulating your life energy, qi, is steering clear of toxic relationships.
We all have people around us who, as you might put it, drain our Qi. After talking to them you feel physically tired and empty. That happens because, metaphorically speaking, they have ‘sucked out’ your Qi. But you are just as sure to have friends and acquaintances who genuinely strengthen you and give you energy when you spend time with them. That is a good, healthy exchange of Qi.
Since Qi (prana, life energy, orgone, pneuma) takes part in every process in the body, there are many different ways of regulating it.
They include:
- Caring for your mental health (psychosocial counselling)
- Regular physical activity, with an emphasis on breathing practices such as qigong, yoga and tai chi
- Proper sleep, rest and meditation
- Sensible nutrition.
