The club

The club for psychology, health and growth ‘Freud's Legacy’ brings together specialists from several fields (psychosocial counselling, health, nutrition, sport) who run online meetings for club members. And one thing matters a great deal: we work under an Austrian Gewerbeberechtigung für Lebens- und Sozialberatung (psychosocial counselling) — and that is already a mark of quality!

Here is what you get:

  1. support, reliable information and answers to your questions;
  2. direct contact with our specialists;
  3. a group of like-minded people to lean on;
  4. practical knowledge.

The centre offers a simple format that is open to everyone. Much like a gym, you buy a membership (for a week, for two, or for a month). Membership entitles you to attend any online meeting our specialists hold. The number of visits is not limited. You can take part in club meetings every single day!

The meetings are group video conferences on Zoom, which the facilitators and the participants join at the agreed time. The date, the time and the link are in the calendar.

Every meeting has a topic — and the topic follows your own questions!

What does a club meeting look like?

The conversation our facilitators create is relaxed and friendly. You choose the way of taking part that feels comfortable to you:

  1. video on and taking an active part in the conversation
  2. video off and simply listening in
  3. talking to the facilitator and joining the conversation

Nobody pushes you to speak if you are not ready for it, and nobody asks you to have your say. At the centre you can leave a meeting at any time if you wish.

A group session at the centre can have a theoretical part and a practical one: exercises, meditations, personality tests. Everyone at the meeting can ask questions about the topic and ask for an opinion. This is not a therapy group. At the centre we talk live and with feedback: you get the professional view of the facilitator and the moral support of the group.

The topics of our meetings grow out of what the community asks for. If something has been left unclear or new questions have come up, we can arrange another meeting on the same topic or a related one.

How do I sign up for an online group meeting?

The online sessions at the club take place daily and last an hour or more. Our website, which describes the centre, has the calendar of group meetings. To take part, open the page of the meeting and confirm your attendance with the ‘I am coming’ button. That is how you reserve your place in the group. At the centre you choose the topic that interests you, or set it yourself. That is how our club helps you sort out exactly your own question.

A word from Dimitri

The club is the most convenient, the safest and the most effective format for working through your life questions

Over the last five years we experimented a great deal, looking for a counselling format that would really help people

  1. Safely choose a counsellor for yourself
  2. Be convenient in time and place
  3. Be affordable — counselling takes time, after all

We have run more than 150 live group meetings, gone on air more than 100 times with broadcasts on psychological topics, and finally found and built the space of the centre you are in right now.

Is counselling expensive, slow and useless?

Do you think so too? Quite right — that is often exactly how it is. Which is why, to change the situation, we built something better: the club.

Expensive

Counselling and psychotherapy are very expensive. Yes. One online session costs between 10 and 100 euros. And one is usually not enough: proper work takes a series of sessions. So in a month you can easily spend 200–300 euros. That is a lot of money — which is why at the centre we give you something comparable for 25 euros a month.

Given that in a month you can attend more than 30 meetings at the club, a single session ends up costing about as much as a cup of coffee. Simply by coming to the group sessions at the centre you take a step towards changing your life for the better.

Slow

Counselling takes a long time. That is true as well: your attitudes have been forming over decades. So if you want to change yourself, it takes months, sometimes years — at least if you go to a session once a week.

At the ‘Freud's Legacy’ centre you will get to your answer considerably faster. Our online meetings run seven days a week at convenient times. And you can set the topic yourself.

Useless

Someone who is inexperienced and has not been through their own personal development work may project their own problems and hang-ups onto you. Finding a counsellor who has worked on themselves is not easy. That is why at our counselling centre we have given you the chance to put the person in front of you to the test. How does that work?

As a member with access to the centre, you can attend any meeting. Even if the topic is not quite yours, you can join, watch the facilitator work in a comfortable setting, ask questions and even provoke a little. And because the meetings at the centre are held in a group, you will see from the outside how they work with other people. If the facilitator has given you a sense of safety, you have certainly found someone you can trust.

Common misconceptions

Let us clear them up together!

Psychology is for ‘nutters’?

Psychiatry treats seriously ill people with a psychosis. That is the job of doctors in hospitals: they prescribe medication to stabilise the person's emotional state and refer them on to psychotherapy.

Psychotherapy accompanies people who have partly lost their connection with reality. But most people are simply ‘neurotic’. On the outside everything looks fine, inside they feel uneasy. They cope with life perfectly well; what they lack is the skills, the habits and the steady emotional footing to reach their goals. These are the people who come to the centre as members — people like me, and perhaps like you.

Our centre for the health of body and soul supports healthy people in changing their lives for the better and reaching what they have set out to do.

Counsellors are not interested in their clients' problems

It is said that counsellors deliberately keep their distance and that their clients' problems do not really interest them. That may be partly true of lone operators — but not of our centre

We put together groups in which you get support from people who are close to you in spirit.

Having met at the online meetings, fellow members of the centre become friends, see each other and some of them even find a relationship here.

Talking in the community does more than bring people closer. It shows in practice how varied personality types are, it lets you rehearse life situations at the centre in a safe setting, and it gives you support that does not come from the facilitator alone. Do join us!

The whole-person approach of our centre

Viktor Frankl, the Austrian psychiatrist who survived a concentration camp during the Second World War, reminded us that a human being is more than the sum of their parts.

Every school of psychology looks at the human being from its own side. That is why we brought together specialists of different schools and different personality types into one centre. You get a programme that combines several points of view — so that you can become whole.

Welcome to the treasury of knowledge

Every week at the centre we open up the depths of the psyche to give you recipes for a calm, dependable, steady and harmonious life — in love, in your career and in your own development. That is our way of supporting you with knowledge)

What our members say

There are too many of them, and they are far too long, to gather in one place. But we will try to bring together in one place the voices of those who came to us at the centre for health and growth.

Professional support you can verify

In many countries there is no legislation regulating the work of counsellors and counselling centres. Anyone who has taken some course may call themselves a counsellor or a coach. No wonder that in a situation like this it is hard to find a qualified specialist and to trust them.

In Austria, by contrast, psychosocial counselling is a state-regulated trade: Lebens- und Sozialberatung. To obtain the Gewerbeberechtigung you complete more than a thousand hours of training, at least a hundred documented counselling sessions under supervision and your own Selbsterfahrung (personal development work) — and you pass the state Befähigungsprüfung before the Chamber of Commerce.

The ‘Freud's Legacy’ centre works under a valid Austrian Gewerbeberechtigung für Lebens- und Sozialberatung. That is the best evidence that the support you get at our centre rests on real qualifications.

Questions and answers

The mission of the club

The people who lead and run the ‘Freud's Legacy’ centre share one mission: health should be within everyone's reach!

The club gives you the room to develop your inner life, your body and your mind. To start moving forward with the help of our centre, you first have to let go of unhelpful attitudes, blocks, destructive thoughts, old hurts and anxieties. Because it is impossible to

  • lose weight if putting it on is the defensive reaction of a wounded psyche;
  • climb the career ladder while fears and self-doubt are still in the way; build a harmonious relationship without knowing anything about the psychology of relationships;
  • stay healthy without understanding how psychosomatics works.

The specialists of our centre help you make sense of these questions and many others.

What the centre has over other formats

Since you are not buying a single visit but a membership with access to the centre, you belong. The same people meet again and again, and step by step strangers turn into a group that carries you, a team of like-minded people you want to come back to.

This form of taking part is a good chance not only to learn something new and get a view from outside, but also to experience mutual support. Here at the centre you will feel that you are not alone and that the people around you go through similar states.

The online format of the centre lets you talk with the whole world. People from the most different corners of the planet come together to stand by each other and share their experience.

Even though a meeting takes place in a group, at the centre you will feel that each person is seen individually.

What taking part in the centre costs

A month's club membership at our centre costs 25 euros. It includes the daily online group meetings with our facilitators: more than 30 a month. Individual sessions with the specialists of the centre are booked separately. You can buy a single session or a series.

How do I choose the right counsellor at the centre?

It is said to be very hard to find the person who is right for you. It is unclear what criteria to use to judge professional competence, and how far you will be able to open up and trust that person. But not at our centre!

The format of open group meetings our centre works in gives you the chance to see a specialist at work. By coming to the group meetings at the club you will get to know our specialists better, see how they work, and be able to choose the one who is closest to you in spirit.
