There are people who are very bright, very loud, very vivid in the way they show themselves, and who thereby draw a great deal of attention to themselves. Always ready to climb onto a little stool and recite a poem to everyone, just to collect a mass of applause. This is the hysteroid personality type. Let us give them a bright name — the Actors. Actors of the variety stage and of Instagram.
If you adore films with Mikhail Boyarsky and Svetlana Khodchenkova, if you like Jon Bon Jovi's concerts or Svetlana Loboda's videos, or if you still remember ex-President Bill Clinton, whose saxophone Monica played, then you have understood who is meant.
The inner world of the hysteroid personality type
The Actors, that is the hysteroid types, are extraverts in an active life position with a violated right to provision — which in itself sketches quite precisely what is going on with them.
- Extraverts — meaning that they need a response from the world around them in order to understand themselves
- In an active life position — meaning that they will actively press for what they need
- The Ego type of the Actors is contact with Emotions. Inside, everything is built on two processes of emotioning: attraction and aversion. And since they are extraverts, the emotions splash outwards.
- A violated right to provision means “there will not be enough for me”: there is no sense of being sated, there is always a need for “just a little bit more”. That goes for food and for money, but above all for other people's attention. Attention is in general the most important psychological “commodity” and human need.
And so an open bid for attention — that is the key foundation of it all. Depending on the country they live in and on the mentality of the population dominant in that territory, it can take entirely different forms. But the key task will always be one and the same — it is
a hundred-per-cent bid for the attention of everyone around
Here the sheer fact of attention is what matters. Its quality is beside the point: praise me, scold me — no difference. The main thing is that it is me, and that at this moment all the attention is focused on me.
In every country, depending on the dominant mentality, hysteroids have their own particular flavour.
- Take the United States of America, where hysteroid culture rules in the cities: there the Actors are as in Hollywood — everything is conspicuous and loud: a boom box on the shoulder, so that the whole street can see for certain that this is me. Bright multicoloured clothes, underwear sticking out from under the T-shirt.
- In Russia, with its strongly expressed narcissistic tendency, the images are quite vivid too: most often the hysteroid part is played by the “blondes” of the jokes.
- In conservative countries — in Lithuania, say, or in Belarus with their manic component — the Actors are young men in neat little suits, dressed very tidily, with a matching appearance, very quiet in their behaviour, calm. And beside them stands a rather expensive car with... the speakers at full blast, so that every passer-by looks at them and it is clear whose car this is. These are the small but very distinct manifestations of hysteroid character.
Depending on the norms and rules inside a country, the styles of expression will differ. For instance, a violated right to provision very easily and very often pours out in the form of scenes: “You've short-weighed me! You've short-changed me! Give it to me! Hand it over! Bring it! Take it away! Now guess what I want!”
Male Actors have a harder time of it than female ones. Women of the hysteroid type have social approval: hysteroid behaviour is supported and welcomed (remember the jokes about “blondes”). For men this style of behaviour is neither socially approved nor supported in everyday life. On stage, or within certain communities — among showmen, for example — it is another matter.
In earlier times, with no socially acceptable outlet, hysteroids were left with the role of the “lackey” to a “big” man — like the character Promakashka in the film “The Meeting Place Cannot Be Changed”. Now there is such a thing as metrosexuals, and in that they have begun to find themselves too. The metrosexual theme was thought up by other personality types, but hysteroids express themselves through it and can use it to behave adaptively.
The strengths of the hysteroid personality type
Their Harmonious Traits are brightness, attractiveness and charm; you will never be bored with them. And in general they know how to present themselves and feel excellent in the foreground, in front of a camera and an audience.
They are very good at casting a spell, quick off the mark, sociable. That makes them the kings of the party circuit, with a wide circle of acquaintances. Very mobile, energetic, sexy.
They are creatively gifted, active in the arts, in cinema, on the variety stage, as singers. In reality shows like “Dom-2” (a long-running Russian reality show) they are the largest group. What is more, they feel good there. Put other personality types in the “box”, knowing that a dozen cameras are watching them even in the lavatory, and they will be uncomfortable. Hysteroids feel fine.
Of all the personality types, hysteroids give the most attention to their appearance and their body. Fashion, youth, freshness is such a striking feature of hysteroids that the next chapter, “Outward signs”, is devoted to it on its own
And as people with the Ego type Emotions, they express them easily and trust their emotional world. In this they also inspire those around them, filling the people they talk to with their own feelings.
Disharmonious traits of the hysteroid personality type
With the bid for attention as the main theme, the chief disharmonious, conflict traits are capriciousness, recklessness, illogicality. That does not mean they are unable to think. They are able to, and they are perfectly aware of their own advantage, and they even build up certain intrigues. Some of those intrigues may look childish to the people around them, yet they still succeed, because when most people watch a hysteroid in action the thought that comes to them is:
either they are taking me for an idiot, or it really is so.
In general, the theme of manipulation as a means of reaching one's goals is raised here to the highest degree of art. And it is unconscious manipulation: the person sincerely believes in what they are doing. She quite sincerely does not want her sexual partner while she has no new fur coat. There is simply no desire. But the moment the fur coat appears, the desire appears with it, and this is entirely “natural”. That is, these expressions are completely sincere — and they act a great deal.
Boastfulness, haughtiness and impulsiveness are typical of them. In conversation they find it hard to talk about other people or other subjects than themselves. In this way they present above all themselves, rather than being in any interaction with the person they are talking to.
What else counts among the disharmonious, conflict parts? These are people who treat their body like plasticine — that is, most often they do not like their own body. They are forever trying to remake it. People with a violated right to provision are the most regular clientele of plastic surgeons: a little filler here, a little trim there, a little correction over there, “and give me lips like Jolie's”. And it does not embarrass them in the least that it will be a copy: the main thing is that it should be attractive and that it should give them pleasure.
At the same time these people are sexy. It is an animal sexuality at the level of “vibes”, which literally oozes out of them. In this respect one can say that Marilyn Monroe most likely belonged to the hysteroid personality types. Perhaps that is why sexual revolutions kept happening in the USA.
Hysteroids carry this sexuality outwards in enormous quantities, into the outer world. There are quite a few of them in the porn industry, since all of this “radiates” and has a scent to it. And sex with them is by no means bound to be equally wonderful.
Other disharmonious traits are:
- Capriciousness
- Recklessness (behaviour of the “blonde behind the wheel” kind)
- Illogicality, trouble with logic and with cause-and-effect links
- Heightened loudness and flamboyance, together with difficulty in being quiet and unnoticed when that is needed
- Haughtiness, “high society”
- Impulsiveness, superficiality
Appearance of the hysteroid personality type
Hysteroids treat their appearance with care. Their main marker is that they are noticeable — and radically so, in only two versions:
- either a very beautiful, well-groomed and moreover fashionable appearance
- or the level of a “market stallholder”, and there is no middle ground!
Of the first kind, hysteroids are bright, conspicuous, fashionable, with pronounced sexuality:
fashion, youth, freshness!
And they keep up a youthful look to the very last. Even in old age they look very beautiful.
They are afraid of their own plainness and drabness, which is why they run to the surgeons and give so much attention to make-up. Which is only natural: one of their main fears is being left without an audience. They are on stage the whole time, acting the whole time.
“If possible, he must please the public; if he cannot please it, he must astonish it; and if he can neither please nor astonish, he must at least frighten and shock it”
—Carl Gustav Jung, “Psychological Types”If they do not find an adaptive way to express their typical part (the leaning towards beauty, towards celebration, towards taking the attention of an audience), they become uncomfortable and start moving in the negative direction — looking frighteningly ugly. Since it makes no difference to them what kind of attention they get, hysteroids can sink so “low” that they begin to arouse disgust: they spread out, become globular, loud and repulsive. The key point: being “disgusting” is unpleasant for them, but you will notice them all the same — and that too is a bid for attention.
Physically, people of the hysteroid personality type are most often fairly thin. They can be skinny and angular. As they grow more harmonious, the body becomes smoother.
Because of the large amount of the female hormone, a frequent phenomenon is a large bust on very thin women. Women often have narrow hips and a pronounced waist. Men are marked by mobility; the shoulder line is slanting and sloping. Both men and women are marked by emotional vividness.
How do you recognise them by their speech?
Hysteroids are happy to play the “capricious princess”. At the slightest thing they fly into hysterics along the lines of “why can't I ever manage it?!»
If you are not giving a hysteroid attention, you will hear the characteristic complaint: “Why are you ignoring me, not noticing me?” In general, the absence of attention troubles them greatly, as does any situation of going unnoticed and having no audience.
In the same vein are the demonstrative games of “superstar — model — actress — the most famous of all...”. If they cannot become a first-magnitude star themselves, hysteroids move into bohemianism and try to get into the “inner circle” of the most famous and richest people. There is attention there, even if the hysteroids are standing in the background.
