In the Needs section we pick out the “little keys” to manipulating personality types. To have any effect on a hysteroid, you need to be aware of their principal need (which is also their principal source of pleasure). Namely,
To be the centre of attention
The neurotic need of the hysteroid is the need to play a part (to be on stage the whole time) and to be admired. And any admiration will do: praise as much as “what a little devil!” — from the hysteroid's point of view that counts as admiration too.
They need confirmation that “I am beautiful, attractive, young, fashionable, famous, cool”. But the more admiration their performance earns them, the further they get carried away with the part and the more admiration they demand. This, incidentally, shows up indirectly in the way they behave in conflicts.
To get attention they can be the instigators and they can be aggressive. But — mark this! — they will never move on to physical violence and will keep it verbal. Once a real fight starts, they edge back a little.

If you compare the psychopathic and the hysteroid in a quarrel, at the moment of conflict they look very much alike: both are as hysterical as they can get. The difference is that the psychopathic one breaks through you, removing an obstacle, and that is a very high level of aggression, whereas the hysteroid is staging a hundred-per-cent bid for attention. So with an aggressive psychopathic, if you step aside and clear the way, that goes down well and he calms down. Try to step away from a hysteroid and he will respond by carrying on: “Stay right there! Where do you think you're going? Come back!”
In short, if you want to satisfy a hysteroid, give them:
- Plenty of fans and admirers
- Wealth — I have lots of money, I can buy anything
- Expensive toys (cars, yachts, designer clothes and the rest)
- A chance to show off those “toys” (mine is cooler than yours)
- Being the very best of all (beauty contests and so on)
