Want stronger bones? Give a fig!

Your body holds more calcium than any other mineral, yet most people do not cover their need for it through food.

The classic calcium-rich foods are dairy products, cheese and yoghurt. Plenty of non-dairy foods are high in this mineral too: seafood, leafy greens, pulses and dried fruit, for example. You can easily meet your body's need for calcium by adding a variety of foods from the list in this article to your diet.

Seafood and leafy greens are one of the sources of Ca for your body

Take the fig, or to give it its proper name, Ficus carica: it is rich in potassium, antioxidants and fibre and supplies us with vitamin K, and on top of that it holds more calcium than any other dried fruit.

In fact, reliable studies have confirmed that eating 50 grams of dried figs gives our body 10% of the calcium RDI.

A list of foods that can keep the calcium (Ca) in your body at a normal level:

  • Milk and dairy products;
  • Cheese, tofu and yoghurt;
  • Sardines and salmon;
  • Seeds and nuts (almonds above all);
  • Beans and lentils;
  • Leafy greens and rhubarb.

Eat well. Take care of yourself and stay healthy!
