The opening session of a 30-day challenge: better posture, a healthier spine and a muscular armour that finally lets go.
We owe our upright stance to the postural muscles. They keep our ligaments and bones from being overloaded, they hold the spine in line, and at the same time, by contracting, they stop the body from losing its balance. And the magic of the postural muscles is not only that they keep our heads up — they also keep our thinking up there, high and positive.
When we ignore our posture, we quite literally put our bodies at risk. Wearing the spine out ahead of time, we invite chronic pain and fatigue, we thicken the muscular armour and we build new blocks and clamps.
Bringing your posture back to normal and letting the muscular armour go is not a quick decision, but it is the right one. You will need consistency, awareness and patience with small steps — the very virtues this 30-day challenge for beautiful posture will help you develop.
Over the next 30 days, targeted movements and reminders will help you to:
release overstrained muscles;
"hear" your body and become more aware;
strengthen the muscles that have grown weak; and
retune your joints and your spine towards recovery.
Every day you will get exercises to do — they take 7 to 15 minutes — plus reminders about keeping your posture, so that muscle memory kicks in. Save these pages or print them out: they will keep serving your beautiful body long after the challenge is over.
Take care of yourself and stay well! See you at the next session)
