What the frustration type should strengthen

This is not a list of flaws — the strengths of the type are already there. What follows is what it usually lacks, and what can be built up with practice.

In short: getting started easily, not getting stuck in doubt · seeing things through to the end · flexibility: from gentleness to firmness · responsibility shared equally · gratitude to those who help · from melancholy to humour and optimism · attention to other people's experience, arguments and facts

Getting started easily, not getting stuck in doubt. The key point: being able to make a start and get past the first obstacle. Ease of action is the foundation of growth precisely because it protects against getting stuck in endless deliberation.

Seeing things through to the end. Making a start is not enough — what has been begun must be carried steadily through to its logical conclusion and produce a result.

Flexibility: from gentleness to firmness. Being able to be friendly, accommodating, demanding and formal by turns, as the situation requires. It is the switching between these states that gives inner balance and confidence.

Responsibility shared equally. Coming to see that responsibility is fairly distributed among everyone involved in an event, rather than resting entirely on one person.

Gratitude to those who help. Respect and gratitude towards those who help you reach a goal. Recognising other people's contribution and the value of teamwork strengthens social bonds.

From melancholy to humour and optimism. Finding the positive even in difficult circumstances. Humour works here as a tool: it makes hardship easier to bear and bouts of self-doubt easier to get through.

Attention to other people's experience, to arguments and facts. Reckoning with other people's experience, reasoning and evidence is a distinct part of the same movement from doubt to action, not a side effect of the other points.
