The needs of the psychopathic types
To get anything out of the psychopathic type, it is good to know their needs and what gives them pleasure. And here you can already guess: it is everything in which they cancel out their fears and fulfil their needs.
To fulfil the need to grasp boundaries and the universe, they adore
- Violating other people's boundaries and territory, since that is how they “gestalt” the environment.
- Telling the whole truth about others and about themselves, because that is how they visibly rejoice at having finally “shaped the universe”
- Showing “liars” and “hypocrites” up for what they are, because they “tried to destroy my world”
To prove their own existence to themselves and to the world (the right to Be is violated), they:
- Take risks in order to feel alive — “I exist”. That is exactly why psychopathic types go in for extreme sports
- Adore sex and gluttony as a kind of pleasant sensation. It proves their own existence to them. Accordingly, the absence of any limits in satisfying their bodily and other needs will add to their pleasant sensations.
- Large financial incomes, which prove that “I exist”.
To fulfil the need for control through power, they adore
- Developing and proving their strength, physical strength above all. Doing sport feels good. So does putting that strength to use.
- Achieving goals they have set for themselves, carrying out decisions and tasks. “A man said it — a man decided it — a man did it” — this is the response of control and of proving their own existence to themselves.
- They take pleasure in being merciless towards themselves and others.

In her book “Psychoanalytic Diagnosis: Understanding Personality Structure in the Clinical Process”, the psychoanalyst Nancy McWilliams took a good look “under the bonnet” of their unconscious
