What the manic type should strengthen
This is not a list of flaws — the strengths of the type are already there. What follows is what it usually lacks, and what can be built up with practice.
In short: stepping away from perpetual struggle, lightness · granting others the right to their own opinion · admitting your own fallibility · compassion, emotional intelligence · a sense of humour
Stepping away from perpetual struggle, lightness. Accepting that some things come easily — and that this makes them no less valuable. Being freed from the pressure that “everything has to be achieved through effort” lets you enjoy the process without judging yourself.
Granting others the right to their own opinion. Softening the leaning towards authority and dominance. It matters, separately, to allow that people holding different opinions can be right at the same time — this widens your perception.
Admitting your own fallibility. Allowing yourself to make mistakes. Admitting that no one is immune to error makes a person open to criticism and less defensive, and along with that more ready to change.
Compassion, emotional intelligence. Feeling and understanding other people's emotions rather than leaning on logic alone. This is the condition for trusting, sincere relationships.
A sense of humour. Humour defuses tense situations and makes conversation easy, lowering the level of stress. Being able to laugh at yourself works in private life and in professional life alike.
