Frustrating types take their pleasure from speed and inspiration — these are their favourite neurotic needs. Everything has to be fast and headlong, so that things are buzzing.
There has to be inspiration, the kind that gives you a rush. There has to be a high in it, it has to carry you away, you need the flow. And the longer a Frustrating type is high and swept along, the more destructive their activity becomes. But once the inspiration is gone, they start to come unglued:
“where has my inspiration gone?”
Frustrating types are also in constant interaction with the people around them. That is because it matters enormously to them to have an anchor, which can be either a cause or a person (a favourite, a “best friend”). Having an anchor gives them a frame of reference and keeps all that buzz and inspiration from spinning out of control.
“Give me a fixed point, and I shall move the whole world”
Mind you, the “anchor” here is not a boss. Frustrating types hate being managed and will tell anyone who gives them orders where to go. But they love feeling supported, being listened to, having people come to them for approval or advice. They get a special kick out of dealing with others from the teacher’s position, when their mastery is acknowledged.
The flip side is that the loss of the anchor is deeply painful for Frustrating types. And heaven help you if you stop “being a friend”: a Frustrating type will take revenge, trying to destroy you utterly, to wipe you out and trample you down.
And three more sources of pleasure for Frustrating types:
- Setting mass movements in motion.
- A varied, ever-changing crowd around them.
- The mystical, the esoteric, mystery.
