You know what people say about Freud: everything is run by the unconscious, and the unconscious is run by sex. Back then, in the Victorian, puritan, sex-free age, Freud had little information to go on. But if he were alive today, Freud would know everything. In this article I will lay out the statistics on what our unconscious dreams about in Ukraine, Russia and Belarus. We will gossip about the "dirty" Europeans in Belgium and Austria. And most importantly: what do the ideal women in these countries look like?
100 years ago Freud was the first to speak of psychology as a science. And he derived that science from... a single clinical case — the case of Anna O., publishing “Studies on Hysteria” in 1895. In all, 43 clinical cases from Freud’s practice are known. If Sigmund were alive today, I would advise him to take up research at the porn corporation Pornhub, which holds 42 billion data points about our most intimate desires.
Who runs pornography worldwide?
If you do not know (which I deeply and unconsciously doubt), there are plenty of popular porn portals: Pornhub, Youporn, Brazzers and others. What few people know, however, is that all these porn portals are run by a single corporation, MindGeek. Practically every porn site known in the western world (about 15 of them in all) belongs to it.
The largest of these portals, Pornhub, which takes more than half of all the views, publishes a statistical analysis every year — its own greatest achievements, who watches what. With this information we can now find out the most intimate and unconscious desires of the population.

Pornhub gets 42 billion porn views a year. That is roughly a third of all the views in the world. It means, for instance, that:
- every adult in the USA watches porn about 80 times a year.
- The average age of a viewer is 36. Women make up 35%.
- A single session lasts on average 10 minutes 28 seconds, until...
Interestingly, porn is watched not so much by teenagers as by people closer to 40. And entertainment evidently plays a large part: if you switch off Facebook (as happened during the brief blackouts of 2018, when the social networks were down for a couple of days), views go up by 19%. So if there is nothing to do, what do we do? Right: chocolate, spectacle and self-gratification.
Euro-porn-vision: who do the countries of Europe dream about?
Who do Europeans dream about, or what do the most desired women look like in different countries? Incidentally, in the film “Men, Women & Children” there is a scene in which a man picks his companion for the night to match an actress he had seen on a porn site.
This is what Ukraine’s “dream” looks like: the brunette Lana Rhoades. Interestingly, Ukrainians watch not Ukrainians but Russians. And they adore hentai, that is, erotic cartoons in the Japanese style, with big eyes.
The same Lana Rhoades is adored in Belgium. Belgians look for French women, and what they love is not cartoons but lesbians. Marriage as an institution is very strong in Belgium. People do not sign the papers, but they live together seriously. The huge number of swinger clubs is seen by the local culture as an addition to family life: why not have a look at beautiful women?
The ideal woman from the Belarusian point of view is the blonde Nicole Aniston. And Belarusians, just like Ukrainians, adore Russian women and cartoons.
And the woman Russians desire is the anime-like actress Solazola: huge round eyes, skinny, very young, Asian-looking. In fact Solazola is Estonian). Russians look for... Russians, and watch cartoons and anal sex more often than others do.
The Austrians’ dream is the teenage girl Lucy Cat. It is evidently no accident that it is in Austria that stories keep surfacing about Natascha Kampusch, who was abducted at the age of 8 by a neighbour and held in a cellar for 8 years. Or the story of Josef Fritzl, who kept his own daughter in a cellar for 20 years running. And it is all there to be seen on the porn portals!
What do porn preferences tell us?
Have you noticed how "tastes" differ from country to country? In our own countries the preference is hentai (erotic cartoon characters with big eyes), in Belgium lesbians and amateur sex, in Austria simply anal... Does this tell us anything? It all depends on whether sexual desire is a conscious act or not.
For the philosopher Schopenhauer, sexual desire was the embodiment of the will to live. For Freud, the drive consists of several levels: part of it is outward and conscious. Another part is repressed, and shows itself in “substitutes”.

If the original object of desire has been lost through repression, it often turns out to be represented by an endless series of substitute objects, none of which, however, is ever fully sufficient. ...The sexual drive at first breaks down into a whole series of components (or, more precisely, arises out of them), not all of which can enter into its later formation; some must be suppressed or put to some other use. These include, above all, the coprophilic parts of the drive, which have turned out to be incompatible with our aesthetic culture
