Melancholic man and woman
Complete nonsense. There is a common misconception that for a perfect relationship people have to be alike. And that this supposedly gives them complete mutual understanding, agreement and harmony. In reality, of course, it does not work that way.
More precisely, it is an echo of a first love that never worked out. Remember your teenage years, when you so badly wanted to fall in love with somebody, anybody? And the first rejection, the first agony and grief of loss, with the cries of ‘I will never meet anyone like him (her) again’? After that you want to meet the person who is ‘JUST LIKE ME’.
And of course you are bound to have had a relationship like this in your early youth. Or you dreamed of one. In reality, though, stagnation sets in very quickly: how long can you go on talking to yourself? Conflicts arrive just as fast, because both of them - the sanguine man and the sanguine woman - have the same sore spots, the same behaviour in a quarrel, the same strategies. So no way out is found, the conflicts never end, and no development happens.
No — if that is what you think, you are better off either talking to a counsellor or picking a different combination below

What are the prospects?
Marital happiness: zero!
The compatibility of one active extravert with another extravert ends in ... nothing. Extraverts need a response from the world around them in order to understand themselves. And ideally that response should come from someone who at least understands themselves, that is, from an introvert.
Sexual compatibility: zero!
What is there to say? Having sex with yourself? A sanguine man is... a man) A sanguine woman is a woman with a dominant masculine principle, with an ‘animus’. Sex between a man and a man?
Growth and prosperity: zero!
Two people who both need social attention: how are they going to share that social attention? How are they going to compete for it? How are they going to fight for praise?
For children: zero!
To raise and bring up children, someone has to stay at home. That is, you need a parent for whom outward social achievements do not matter, who can devote themselves entirely to the home and the children. And both the sanguine man and the sanguine woman are by their very nature in an active life position. Achievements that bring the attention of society matter to both of them. Which of the two will stay at home is anyone's guess...
Not quite you? Pick a different temperament!
Relationships by personality type: an overview
Sanguine women come in 3 personality types:
- In the antisocial sphere — the hysteroid personality type
- In the social sphere — the narcissistic type, and
- In the extra-social sphere — the frustrating personality type
Phlegmatic men likewise come in three types:
- In the antisocial sphere — the autistic personality type
- In the social sphere — the compulsive type, and
- In the extra-social sphere — the paranoid personality type
Three scenarios for this couple
Melancholics come in three personality types:
- the epileptoid personality type
- the depressive type
- the frustration personality type
Essentially these are what we call ‘dynamics’ — a style of behaviour that in sanguines changes over the course of the day depending on the circumstances.
On a scale from 5 (perfect) to 1 (a complete fail), their relationship will look something like this:
See the example from a film below
‘Hatred’ relationships
When a melancholic man and a melancholic woman of different personality types meet, a certain mutual understanding springs up between them... It takes one to know one. And hatred, because of the competition for public attention (they both need it, after all). The result is a competitive couple that is permanently in a state of.. all-out war
‘Hatred’ relationships
In the example from the film ‘Love and Doves’, two characters come face to face. One of them may look more like a sanguine than a melancholic, but their lines capture precisely what can go on inside this couple.
Female competition to the death - that is all you need to know about relationships in the ‘melancholic man and woman’ style
